What if sport could become more than physical activity? What if it could also be a space for learning, personal development, emotional awareness and social inclusion?

This is the idea behind Edu4Impact – Adult Education through Sport as a means of Improving Social Inclusion, an Erasmus+ project that has now reached another important milestone: the Edu4Impact eLearning Platform is online and ready to be explored.

The platform has been developed to support adult educators, sport professionals, trainers and other practitioners working with vulnerable adults, providing them with practical resources to integrate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into sport and physical activity.

From research to practice

Edu4Impact began with an extensive research phase involving Italy, Greece, Spain and Romania. More than 350 educators, sport professionals and vulnerable adults contributed their perspectives on the potential of sport as a context for developing social and emotional skills. The findings were used to identify training needs and to design the project’s training curriculum.

The next step was to turn this knowledge into practical learning opportunities.

The eLearning platform brings together the training materials developed by the partnership, allowing users to explore how sport-based activities can support the development of key SEL competencies, including:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Self-Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision-Making

Rather than treating these competencies as abstract concepts, Edu4Impact focuses on learning through experience. Sport and physical activities become opportunities to observe emotions, interact with others, manage challenges, make decisions and reflect on one’s own behaviour.

A resource for practitioners

The platform is designed as a practical resource that can be used by professionals working in a wide range of adult education and social inclusion contexts.

Users can access the Edu4Impact learning materials in five languages: English, Italian, Romanian, Spanish and Greek, making the resources accessible to practitioners across the project’s partner countries and beyond.

The materials can support both individual learning and the preparation of face-to-face activities, workshops and sport-based interventions with adults experiencing different forms of vulnerability or social exclusion.

The underlying approach is simple: sport does can produce social and emotional learning. The way activities are designed, facilitated and reflected upon can further enhance sporting experiences into meaningful learning opportunities.

From European cooperation to local practice

Edu4Impact brought together five organisations from Italy, Greece, Spain and Romania, combining expertise in adult education, sport, social inclusion and research.

The project has also tested its approach in practice through an international Learning, Teaching and Training Activity in Palermo, where educators and sport professionals experimented with the training methodology and activities developed by the partnership.

The completed platform therefore represents more than the conclusion of a project activity. It is an invitation to continue experimenting with the potential of sport as an educational and inclusive tool.

Whether you are an adult educator looking for new methodologies, a sport trainer interested in the educational dimension of physical activity, or a professional working with vulnerable adults, the Edu4Impact platform offers an opportunity to explore, learn and adapt new approaches to your own practice.
