The Greek Marathon winner this year: Mr. Panagiotis Karaiskos”

Panagiotis Karaiskos is a Greek long-distance runner from the Petroupoli area of Attica. He started track and field in 2013. He has a personal best in the marathon of approximately 2 hours 17 minutes and 58 seconds (2:17:58), achieved in 2021 in Siena, Italy. From a young age, he was involved in sports activities such as judo, football, and church youth groups. At around 15 years old, he experimented with drugs, starting with cannabis and later progressing to more serious use. He admitted that he spent “six years” trapped in drug addiction before deciding to change. His family supported him through this difficult period, and he eventually managed to overcome his addiction. Despite starting track relatively late, he developed into one of the best Greek long-distance runners. In a race at the BMW Berlin Marathon, he achieved a new personal best of 2:16:28. He has participated in the Authentic Athens Marathon as well as other domestic and international road races.
